Valheim player stats: carry weight & stealth
You start with 25 health and 50 stamina; everything above that comes from food. You can carry 300 before you are encumbered, and up to 1,000 with the best belt, mead and Forsaken power together.

25 health, 50 staminaThat is all you have with an empty stomach. Each of your three food slots adds its food’s health, stamina and eitr; see the best food for each biome.

Stamina comes back after 1 secondStamina starts refilling 1 second after you last used it, at a base 6 per second. Rested, meads and some gear raise that rate; Wet and Cold lower it (see status effects).
Stamina costsRunning drains 8 stamina per second, sneaking 5, swimming 6 (down to 3 at Swim 100); a jump costs 10 and a dodge roll 15. Skills lower most of these.

What encumbered does
As soon as your inventory weighs more than your carry weight.
Slow and groundedYou move at sneaking speed and cannot run, jump or dodge.

5 stamina per secondMoving while encumbered drains 5 stamina every second, and with no stamina left you cannot move at all.
How stealth works
Enemies notice you by sight or by sound. Sneaking cuts both.
Sight: distance, angle and lightAn enemy that is not yet alerted only sees you inside its view range, in front of it and with a clear line of sight. Sneaking shrinks the distance it can see you from: to half in the dark at a low Sneak skill and a fifth at Sneak 100, less in bright light. Standing up it is the full range again.
Sound: your noiseEach action makes noise out to a distance (below), fading by 4 m every second. An enemy hears you when you are inside both its hearing range and your current noise.
Train Sneak near enemiesSneaking within an unaware enemy’s view range trains Sneak ten times as fast as sneaking alone, and costs up to 75% less stamina at level 100.

What is the max carry weight in Valheim?
300 by default. With Megingjord, Mead of Troll Endurance and Moder’s Forsaken power together it reaches 1,000.
How do you increase carry weight?
Wear Megingjord, drink Mead of Troll Endurance, use Moder’s Forsaken power, or empty your own tombstone for Corpse run. They stack.
How do you increase health and stamina?
Eat food: three food slots each add their food’s health and stamina to your base 25 and 50.
What happens when you are encumbered?
You move at sneaking speed, cannot run, jump or dodge, and lose 5 stamina every second you move.
How do you sneak past enemies?
Crouch to sneak: you make no movement noise and enemies see you from a shorter distance, shorter still in the dark and with a higher Sneak skill. Approach from behind; an unaware enemy only sees what is in front of it.
Base stats, carry weight and stamina costs come from the Player prefab in game build 26249040; boosts from each item, power and status effect. Encumbrance, noise and sight come from the game code (assembly 9f959c03…).
